So Who Am I & WHY Should You Choose Me To Teach You Guitar?

Hi, I'm Charlie Long.

I was fortunate to come from a musical family, and I have had a love for the guitar since listening to classic records at my grandfather's side as a small boy.

Taking up the guitar at age 10, I was fortunate to study with a fine jazz teacher and player and jumped into the studies with abandon. By age 14 I had played my first professional gig, and by age 20 had toured the United States. After 2 years of touring I knew life on the road was not for me; but my love of music and playing guitar has never diminished and is in fact now stronger than ever.

Over the last couple of decades, I've had the opportunity to study with multiple world class and famous guitarists... I've also taught thousands of aspiring lead guitar players from all over the world.  

That's where my gift for teaching comes in and how I can help you fulfill your guitar playing dreams.

I specialize in two areas of teaching to help my students - and I apply a "secret sauce" to how I structure my lessons. 

One is the ability to take what can be complex subject matter and explain it in as many ways and levels as necessary to help someone understand it.

The second is my ability to distill the essence of my decades of learning into the true fundamental steps required for other budding guitarists to make quantum leaps in their skills and enjoyment.

And that secret sauce I mentioned?  I believe music is a language, and I incorporate the principles of learning a language into how I teach. Guitarists first need to learn some vocabulary (things like scales and arpeggios).  Next guitarists need some rules for how to use the vocabulary (usable music theory).  Lastly guitarists need to become "conversational" on the instrument by putting what they've learned into action with drills and examples played along with backing tracks.  All of this leads to "automaticity" which is a fancy way of saying the course gets you to the place where you can play naturally and fluidly... while maximizing the enjoyment and fulfillment you have on the guitar.
